I’m curious as to what toolbox/storage solution are you guys using for site work? What works well and what doesn’t?
I’m trying to get more organised, and fed up with decanting tools backwards and forwards between boxes bags and the workshop.
I often end up doing a range of different things so can have quite a selection of tools in play which chops and changes between each job.
I’m currently using the original style systainers that came with my power tools, along with various bags and totes for hand tools.
I’ve got about eight of the systainers so far and that doesn’t fit all the power tools, so I’d probably need to get quite a few.
If im going to invest, it would be nice to get some sort of cohesive organisation going. I’m thinking about setting up dedicated boxes for different tasks.
So far I’ve looked at:
Milwaukee Packout – nice, versatile but too expensive, quite large and screams steal me.
Dewalt/Stanley TStak – like the more compact form factor for getting through doors, fairly inexpensive, but latches didn’t impress me and I’m not sure they are much better built than the systainers.
They do have a lot of different options and bags that also work together which I like.
Dewalt Toughsystem – more robust and waterproof but somewhat limited selection, I like the organiser boxes, but not that cheap, bigger, still don’t like the latches.
Ridgid / Erbauer - just no selection and not that cheap.
Toughbuilt - nice bags but no boxes, limited options and expensive.
Or just continue with the systainers, I’ve not broken one yet to be fair, but I’m surprised as they don’t inspire a lot of confidence.
They are annoying to unclip and access, although the later styles and the Metabox systems seem better in this regard.
I notice Strauss have started selling them and do a bag to fit, but all ridiculously expensive for what they are.
I’d prefer to spend the money on tools than an overpriced plastic box, but I have to admit it is doing my head in now.
