Saw this on Facebook Marketplace locally so I took a chance. Advert said it does not start. I checked to see if parts were available but no luck.
Anyway, the switch was obviously broken, some wires were cut and the sliding mechanism was rusted solid.
I soaked the sliders in Plus Gas and got it moving. Used the new blade that came with all the tools I salvaged from the skip. This also provided the two extension supports that were missing!
A substitute switch was up to £70 from the US so I opened the switch and puzzled over what was missing. I used a bit of brass rod, again from the salvaged tool haul and made a tiny piece for the switch actuator. It took two goes but I got it working. The blade lock springs were missing but again a rummage in the tool haul found a suitable spring.
I now have a fully working sliding mitre saw and it was most satisfying to save a tool.
