Toe jack, oil top up

Aquired this jack, from a skip. It does lift so far, then runs out of oil. Does anyone know, where to top up the oil? There is a small threaded plug , in the centre of top saddle. Never had anything to do with this type of jack before, but it would be very handy.

Looking at where the oil tank is, Possibly one of the slot headed plugs.

if u have Hydraulic fluid no 46.......
but engine oil works for me....it does not have to be thick.....

hydraulic oil and if it pumps all the way to the top its got enough in it.

Leave filler plug out and let down to bottom of stroke, it should pump excees out, then remove a 1/2 egg cup more

Its part filled now so needs topping up. Pump it up until it wont go any further as in reservoir is empty, undo fill screw in top saddle, pull the jack to the top of its stroke and then top it up through the fill screw, may take a while. Its the only way without overfilling it. Vent screw is in top of reservoir opposite the release knob, best undo this when letting it down for the first time.

^^ ??? Surely the reservoir is best filled with oil when the ram all the way down. If filled with the ram up, it will overflow all over the place as the ram comes down.

There is no where to fill the reservoir, only way to do is it as detailed above, should be no mess or excess.

@8ob , followed your method and jack is working ok. Will take it work tomorrow and try lifting a telehandler, to see it it , will lift. I think the reason for low oil, is because there is just a normal M6 grub screw. When pumping at end of ram stroke, oil leaks up past the threads. Thete looks to be a seat oa bottom of hole. So I put a small ball bearing, under grub screw, to seal it .
Do you know if it should be a tapered screw, to seat , into hole?

I use a light hydraulic oil,equivalent to a 20w,don’t know if engine oil is suitable.
