Rivnuts. I am putting an M8 into a box section and four so far have stripped the thread in the Rivnut before even pulling up a bit. I have sent my man up to Allcap to see if they have any decent ones.

Are you using a rivnut tool? I have a sealey AK3984 http://www.sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.asp?id=20&method=mViewProduct&productid=16563 obviously a lot cheaper elsewhere

this works well up to M8 and I haven't had a stripped thread

I bought the short arm one so that I could work in to smaller spaces as the arms have to come out quite wide to complete the fix

Edit: how thick is the plate you are fitting them in? if it is too thick the rivnut has nowhere to expand

Are you winding a bolt into the rivnut to pull it in or using a screwed rod etc with a separate nut to do the pulling?

Is the metal too thick for the length of rivnut? They have a useable material thickness range. If the metal is too thick the deformable section has nowhere to go and the thread will pull out.

I haven't had any problems with the ones from Allcap but have only fitted them through about 2mm

As all say is the panel gauge correct for the riv-nut to thin is a problem as well as to thick
