to good to be true??

i would like to get a plasma cutter so i can make cleaner/better cuts.
however i found a unit that dose plasma/tig/arc(mma) and it would be nice to try tig and have a plasma(so that way i don't lose at all), but i hate to **** away my money on some thing thats a peice of junk(i think we all don't like doing that).

also wail I'am at it thank you weldequip for replying about my question on the Hobart Mega Arc. i got it holy is it a big bugger got it going as well(cost me almost 400 dollars so it was 200 in u.k to fix it. ) and wail i was moving it to a my friend place some guy asked if it was for sale.(so a long story short i got 800 for it.)


so that why i'am looking at a plasma cutter.

Hi,

that advert looks good!

They state that they're using quality MOSfets and they offer a one year guarantee.

Postage seems a bit high though as it's not a high weight item.

Doing an advanced search I can see that they've been selling between $448 and $636 so the current auction may be getting to the top end of the price range.

If they had others for sale I'd be tempted to wait for one at a lower price. It's always a risk buying off ebay but if the price is right then go for it.

If you find an auction that ends while there's a big football match on TV then or it ends while most people are at work then the final price will probably be lower!

yes, that's one way of looking at it.

But it would depend on what it's used for...I wouldn't base my business on using something like this but for a 'hobby' it's probably OK.

If it works for a year or so and pops then you'd get the opportunity to pull it apart and replace a few bits and pieces.

I may have missed something but isn't it being sold by an American company with a warranty?

And I'm not sure where Bleach is but his location sounds like it's somewhere 'over there'.

From his POV it could be a good buy.

Looks very Chinese to me, but like you said, its only for a Hobby. On the other hand, if it does go worng, you can bet that the manufacturers warrenty will have a list of componants it doesn't cover as long as your arm.

Also, the tig spares are easy enough to get hold of, but you should double check that you can get the Plasma torch spares.

Also, I bet the duty cycles are only measured at 15 or 25 degrees ambient temp (So they seem artificially high) and the Tig is scratch arc only, no HF

From what I gather Mitec/Greenbird are good. Aint heard of that one but it may be good also. Has a 50amp cutter? Been using a similar Greenbird machine for a year......no probs but light useage. Don`t expect very clean cuts. You will cut cleaner on the straight with grinder. If you cut profiles yes it`s worth it. Arc facility on them is very good....compared to buzzbox.

^ well i would like to replace my chop saw, grinder and sniper thing (it's like a jig saw.) for a plasma because i had a power surge
and to get new tools i would cost about 450(fore me).

thanks for the fast replys. however i'm not going to buy it i found 2-3 of them with different names so i think it just a "box mover" . so my plan is to save a little more and get a miller found one in town that is 60 amp cutter with built in air compressor for 250 more then what i have.

I'd definately go with a Miller (or similar, quality brand) over the Chinese stuff... you will get a far longer service life from a quality machine, but beware the models with built in compressors; they only offer very limited cutting time before they cut-out. This is due to the relatively very small built in air receiver within the machines. Plasma's don't require a lot of pressure but consume a lot of air... the larger the tank the better. The models with built-in compressors are great for site work but if you are using it in a workshop with a dedicated air supply, ie.seperate compressor, stick with the models without built in air.

Agree with the servicing comments. But I am a hobby welder as well, and wouldnt base a business on it.

I got a 200 amp Tig by Rehmann off Ebay from Germany for £185 + £12 postage.

If its lasts as well as my Sip150 mig I wont complain.
It certainly welds a lot better than the SIP

Dont forget if buying from China (or Ebay delivered from China or outside the EU) you will get clobbered for VaT, and if delivered by Parcelfarce, another £13:50 for them collecting the VaT.
