Hi All
Great forum, good advise abound.
I'm looking into buying a "Hobbyist" MIG set around 150 amps to be run from a domestic 13a supply and would like some advise about the "Gasless" sets on the market. I realize i would need to add a regulator (and some gas) to run with gas and probably change the rollers from knurled to grooved but is there anything else that needs doing? does the torch need any modification? would i need to add a gas solenoid to control flow?
I'm a fabricator/welder by trade but have never had the use of a gasless set so i am unsure if i really need a dual purpose machine. I will be buying this set to primarily restore a ford cargo horse transporter to road worthiness which is a little to big to fit in my garage but 90% of the welding i intend to do on other projects will be indoors so is it really worth getting a dual purpose set or would increasing the gas flow and/or hiding behind a screen/wind break when needed suffice?
So in a nutshell, will getting a dual purpose machine have much of a benefit over a gas only set?
I have been looking at the Clarke 150/151/160/161 gas/gasless sets.
Many thanks
