Hi guys,
Ive heard its possible to MIG weld titanium, however how feasable is it really? I seem to remember it needs to be constantly submerged with shielding gas until its cooled to around 400 degrees due to it being quite reactive.
Basically, we're getting the exhaust of our Formula Student race car made from titanium (it was free!) by one of the worlds best exhaust manufacturers as a favor, however theyre only bending the tubes, not welding them together. This means some one will have to weld them (I'm the best of the bunch which is no good thing as Im a bit rusty).
The only other option is to pay through the roof for some company to do it, which would also take a while to find them and get it sorted (yes we're short of time which is to be expected of a student team! ).
Unless anyone in London whos good with titanium wants to do it for a few quid and a few beers?
PS Id be using the clarke 160, on its way soon from weldequipe, if I did it
