Titanium welders

I have a very small job that requires titanium welding, just about an inch long split in the titanium end cap of a motorcycle exhaust. But I wouldn't know where to start so really need to find someone who can do this for me. It's a repair and not worth spending loads of money on and the result will be hidden in any case.

I'm near Chertsey in Surrey. Anyone know of a somewhere nearby that could help with what will amount to be a 10 min. job for sensible money?

Seriously though, there are guys on here around you that might be up for the job, but I wouldn't expect them to drop everything for the price of a few pints.

Ti wire is available for MUCH MUCH less than that with a little shopping around. Smaller quantity is a big part of it but still a massive saving over £311 ish + VAT per kg. Granted in most cases it'll be CP2 (commercially pure) rather than grade 5 (6Al4V) but that's a good thing in many cases. Dunno what the score is with SIF but they're miles off the mark with Ti and yet their mag wire is cheaper than from mag specialists like Magnesium Elektron

I'm set up for Ti and in Bexley but not interested if you only want ten minutes worth of snotting a weld over a crack as Ti can be embrittled by pretty much everything at welding temps. If you want me to PM you a rough quote post a decent pic

The words sensible money are not normally associated with titanium??. If its hidden will a plastic metal repair hold up? I've used it on carbon fibre but never on Ti so dunno.

When I imported Boulder Bikes, I had a customers Defiant Ti develop a crack in the frame.

I was put onto a company from Birmingham way on, by Jon Whyte (aka Whyte Bikes) I sent them that frame 2 or 3 times over the yrs for different cracks, and they never charged us once.

hi i may be able to help you. Im a coded aerospace titanium welder in ta2 ta10 and beta21s . If the part is nice and clean and not to big to get in the purge chamber i can do it . I am working in hertfordshire at the moment so let me know what you want to do.
