Titan Saw a Good alternative to Workzone Mitre Saw...?

Gutted I missed out on Aldi's Titanium Mitre Saw. For £60.00 (so I'm told) at 1700 watts with 300 x 65mm and laser guidance it's pretty hard to beat for the casual DIY'er. I don't suppose if anyone knows roughly when it might return to the shelves?

Failing that, and I do need to get on with the project ASAP, I figured this maybe a fair alternative to the Workzone item https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb598msw-210mm-single-bevel-sliding-mitre-saw-240v/73135 ?

for the extra £5 you may as well go for the evolution rage saw as they can be used to cut steel too, although the noise and shrapnel from cutting steel are quite bad.....there have been loads of post on here about then so have a search for them. the titan saw does have blades with a finer pitch though.

Thanks I didn't pick up on that one. I must admit for an extra fiver the versatility of slicing through other materials would certainly be quite handy I'm sure

That titan saw looks identical to the Lidl/Parkside saw I have apart from the colour & the Aldi one is probably the same.

Mine is quite good but just not 100% accurate. I've spent ages trying to get to cut square when sliding across a plank but no matter what I do it always puts a bulge along the cut. I've put it down to play in the pivot joint, once the saw is out of warranty I'm going to engineer a solution.

Oh no! That's not good how "un-square" are we talking, massively out?? A little research reveals the Evolution Rage saws seems a little dubious in this area too.

The start & end of the cut are ok, there's just a bulge part way along the cut of a mm or so. It doesn't happen when using it as a chop saw, only when using the slide function for wider boards.

I don't think you are going to get great accuracy on this level of saw. For that you would need to spend £250 for a dewalt or makita. I can't justify spending that for all the work I do so the Parkside saw has to do.

Check the teeth offset.

I had a circular saw and nothing I did with fences or similar would get it cutting straight.

Had a close look and the tct inserts were biased on one side instead of alternate.

Changed the blade, dead straight cuts...

It'd have the effect you describe so maybe worth a look.

Thanks, I'll check that out but I don't think it will be the blade as I've tried 3 different ones!

Sounds similar to the B&Q junk I had. I checked mine it was definitely the guides - the effect was going out in the x direction and also the z vertical direction giving a nice compound angle for free

That's the issue, I'm not in the trade, the tool will only see infrequent usage and budget wise it's difficult to stump up £250 plus for a quality item. However the inaccuracy is the downside, real shame

Don't buy cheap new. Buy quality second hand.
Paid 200 notes for my dewalt gonna set me back 800 when i come to replace it.
I've owned it for 10 maybe 12 years and was 4 or 5 years old when I bought it. More than paid for itself. I'm a chippie. Cut green oak sleepers on it 9x3 joists never missed a beat and cuts true everytime.

I hear you, and I have a couple of trade tools (that I were within budget) and the difference is appreciated. Sadly, I think two hundred quid will be difficult to get hold of.

Not a fan of this style but there accurate and cut well. Trigger guard etc does my nut in.

I paid £5 for my dewalt dw700 110v chop saw - needed £20 of parts to make the guard / lever thing work.
That was at a farm auction.
110v stuff usually goes for 20 - 50 in working order.
Double for 240v.

I have an old dewalt sliding chopsaw,

I paid £60 for it about 3 years ago, only problem is that it's heavy,

i have access to a rage saw, but I find the blades are not fine enough for finish work, so you need to replace the blade for one. with more teeth, if doing fine work,

My brother did try to cut metal tile trim with his rage, it didn't end well.

Edit it's the same as the one in the gumtree link, the DW700, and it's 240v
