Hi all, I'll soon be starting a self build canal narrowboat, 10mm baseplate & 6mm hull sides. Happy enough with my welding abilities but not had a lot of experience on plate preperation.
Can any fabricators out there tell me the correct way to prepare 6mm plate to accept vertical welds? (using an ESAB Lag 315 with an Optimatic A10-mec 30 wire feeder, running Murex Bostrand LW1 1.0 wire, Argoshield heavy gas.
Do I "V" out from both sides? Only one side with a covering weld on the back?
How would you do it?
Also, as I wish to keep distorsion to a minimum, do I weld on "strongbacks" or only use short runs, and allow the plate to cool?
Appreciate any advice, thanks all, JB...
