Tips on prepping,and filling

Has anyone got any good advice and techniques on filling dents and small dings.I know filler sticks better to bare metal,but how do you feather the edge of the repair into the old paint,to avoid showing a ring around it once the paint is on.

if you try to feather into paint you will almost certainly get a ring, you need to go back to bare metal around the repair. Give the filler plenty of time to cure 24 hours or more before over coating, and use a filler primer over the repair.

if you are using celly, a layer of bar-coat over the primer should prevent the paint from 'sinking' into the repair.

Dry sand the filler, as it is porus and will absorb water. If you apply bar-coat, dont sand it, just put the filler primer over that and sand the primer.
