tip problems

hi all went to change the tip on my clarke 100e and took the old one off
then tried to wind the new one in and it jut ripped the copper apart
it appears theres a load of spatter stuck up there can i just use a M5 tap to clear it without partially cutting a new thread in it or just replace the swan neck im doing the liner at the same time as it took 4.2kg on my fishing scales to pull the wire through without the feed roller on

Don't see why not. Just make sure you have the correct pitch of metric thread as there are at least 2 general types for metric. Metric fine and normal. Check against a new tip with the tap for correct pitch. AND use gental touch when winding tap in, rember you are just chasing the thread not cutting a new one. You could put the tap in a free (not attached to drill! ) drill chuck. Makes it easer to get it going in streight, less likely to pull to side.

Forgot to say make sure it is M5 tip you are trying to screw in not an M6! there's not a lot in it and that would strip the softer copper
