Tip for silicone sealant removal.

I'm recycling an old powder coated ali door and frame chucked out by a neighbour. After carefully mechanically removing the old beads with a Stanley knife blade I was left with the stubborn remains.

On a whim I tried a blast of brake cleaner. Magic, a brief window opens when it curls up and dies, before the stuff evaporates. Doesn't harm the powder coating either. Just do maybe 200mm at a time- squirt it then wipe off with a rag.

I get on really great with Wurth Silicone removers , Wont make a whole line disappear but the little smears left after a stanley blade can be soaked in it and then rubbed off

Screwfix no-nonsense silicon eater/remover works rather well too - although I have no experience of it's effect on powder coat.

I reached for the brake cleaner (2.5 euros a big can!) after a specific remover for silicone had failed completely- can't recall the make and I chucked it in the bin. I seem to remember it wasn't cheap.

tec7 solvent does well too , but its expensive.
