Tip Adapter

Hi, another possibly dumb newbie question.

I have a Clarke 151TE.

Below is a pic of the tip, with the shroud removed.

The other pic is of tip adapter from eBay.

Would this adapter allow me to use M6 tips and a push on shroud on my torch?
The blurb for the adapter says that the thread is M8 R/H, which as far as I can tell, so is the large thread on my torch.

Would this work or is that not what the adapter is meant for?

You would have to saw off the brass to the left of the thread, but other than that it should work. I'd want to confirm it before wielding the hacksaw though!

I would try running an M8 nut on the diffuser thread to check yours as it looks like it would work if you cut the end off your swan neck but it is a bit drastic and if the thread is different there's no going back without a new swan neck.

The tip adapter is a consumable on the more "professional" torches, on the hobby torches it is part of swan neck.

Do some careful measuring before cutting as end of tip may not end up in correct place relative to shroud end.

The relative positions of the shroud end and tip are set by the adaptor, so that isn't an issue.

I ran an M8 nut on the thread and it was a good fit.

Cutting the swan neck wouldn't be a huge problem I don't suppose. I can get a new one for about a tenner if I have to.

curious as to why

nobody asked why you might want to do this

the replacement clarke shrouds aren't that expensive and having the same welder I am wondering what the advantage would be

Hi.

No advantage probably.
I just wanted to know if it would fit.
If I had a problem with the tip holder in the future, I just wanted to know what my options were.
Also my thinking (probably incorrectly) was that with a bigger diameter shroud, it might get less clogged up with spatter due to my poor technique as a beginner.
