I've got a hammer with a magnet in the head and a slot for a nail, sort of does the same thing one at a time, useful if stretching but only used that function a few times in 15 years.

works ok with 4" wires but those ring nails are not easy to drive in by hand.

Whilst I think it is a nice design and a lot of thought went into the design and all that, however I don't think that I would ever choose it over a nail gun. Simply due to the accuracy involved, for example with a nail gun, you position the nail where you want it and press the button and the nail goes exactly where you want. With this new hammer you would need to strike it very accurately where you would want it to go, but when you take the swing you may not judge exactly right and it will go near where you wanted but not exactly where you wanted it to land if that makes sense.

Sometimes near enough is good enough but not always. Secondly by the looks of this hammer when you strike it the nail gets hammered in and I assume that the next nail gets put in position automatically for the next strike, but what happens when if that first nail doesn't get completely embedded in, you can't use that hammer again as there is another nail waiting in line so you would have two nails in the one general area, therefore you would have to keep a second hammer handy to finish off the first nail, (unless there is a locking mechanism to prevent the second nail loading so that you could used it as a normal hammer.)

Either way it seems to me it is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist and I would choose the nail gun over it every time if speed and accuracy was needed or even the old fashion and cheap ordinary hammer.

It only hammers the nail in partially on first strike, and reloading is manual.

The internet is devoid of videos so I have to assume it really doesn't work as you might hope. I also assume the price tag will be eye watering.

If you spent £££ on a gadget hammer, you'd want it to have a nail ready to go, then while you are dangling one handed from a roof, bang it in so that when you're done, the next nail advances and is ready to go. One handed operation in other words. If it did that there would be a million vids of it working

If you have to use your spare hand to advance the next nail you might just as well use a bag of nails and a magnet. If on the other hand you only get one shot at lightly positioning the first nail before the next magically appears, the design is a fail because you will suddenly discover you have a nail that needs fixing and you are now hanging from the roof without a hammer!

Exactly. For it to "work" the gadget should either detect a completed nail operation and then auto advance or have a simple one handed method to engage the next nail when you need it.

I like the concept but doubt very much any chippy would want one, they become very attached to a "favourite" hammer , far better would be a spring actuated gadget like a staplegun that could fire in a nail from a cassette just enough so you could take over with a proper hammer. On a cold day doing fencing or roofing that would be useful. better than fumbling about trying to hold nails with cold fingers.

His design will improve over time, if there's any interest. Both hands should always be available on a task though. If anyone is clinging with a death grip to something for safety, they're not safe.

In some respects it a good idea but but nail gun nails are a twerp to batter in by hand. If it auto loaded and let you bash them in with 1 hit I’d probaly buy 1 as for the bit I do now the gas gets out the pasload, and it’s a twerp if not been used for a while.

Even better would be a clip loading hammer that did clout head / felt nails those are the ones that get your fingers

Another point, would it actually last very long before failure? In a nail gun only the hammer mechanism has to withstand high forces of impact not the whole device. I have visions of this failing a millisecond after you take a swing back from the first pilot strike. At this point the nail cassette will have flown backwards hitting the man working 6 feet behind you on the noggin!

Speaking from a professional point of view, I think it was a good idea even though not a practical one. On a conservative estimate, a carpenter drives home around fifty thousand nails a year, and that is year in and year out. A carpenter's hammer is a highly personal choice, where weight and balance are of the utmost importance, especially when considering its continuous repetitive use.

I can't see this new design being realistic with regards to using the variety of nails and nail sizes that are required on the job; its a one trick pony. This design does no take into account that the physical weight and balance will change as nails are added and depleted. It would be uncomfortable to use, and I'm confident that the added weight would cause arm fatigue.

I remember my Dad had a manual operated nailer back in the 1960s. It looked like a conventional nail gun, but had a steel rod you hit with your hammer in the location where the piston would be. He would position it where he wanted it with one hand, and then smack it with the hammer in his other hand, then following up to set the nail home. It was a good tool.

Here is a photo of another cause of fatigue, a 26oz hammer I wielded off and on for twenty some years. I finally put the Ba$^&"d into retirement after a mishap while volunteering my services. I said a few choice words and some how lost it 134 feet away. The other volunteers at the Club were kind enough to retrieve it and return it as a purple thumb award.

Buy a gas less dewalt first fix. Poblem solved.
Also no issues witj gas in the cold weather.

Don’t do enough if it any more to warrant buying new proper nail guns. Only still use the pasload as I have it it’s payed for and no one offerd me anything worth talking when I tryed sell my building kit off. Dewalt tho I’d not tough. Been stung hard by that brand a few times
