Timber SWL

Forgive me if this is too off topic (again)

But does anybody know how to guesstimate the SWL of a timber beam in relation to it's species, CSA and span?

I say guesstimate as I'm sure no two sections of timber will be the same?

I know from experience that the beams in my workshop can hold the weight of a V8 + tranny but I'd rather be a little more scientific

Mick, try superbeam you can use all the functions of the evaluation version except for the printing,
