Timber skids/bearers

We need a shed load of timber skids for a job. We don't get them back so don't want to spend much on them.

I've seen them in the past - just small logs which have been cut top and bottom to give a flat surface - presumably these are the cheapest? Ideally would be cut to length - around 1.5m.

So, saw mill the best bet to get them? and what do i ask for?

Used 4"x4" rough sawn in the past - would be cheaper to use box section

I would try your local saw mill, I've just bought some 6' round fence posts not the best quality either they where £1.60 each.

Larch poles would be ideal and I would think as cheap as you are likely to get especially now with larch disease getting a real grip with 1000s of acres being felled nationwide in an attempt to stop it.

Garrards in Huddersfield have been good for me

The precast concrete panel firms all buy in square cut 3x3 (ish!) So I'd guess that's the cheapest way of doing it as they go through 1000's.

Give one a bell and I'm sure they'd point you in the right direction or even sell you a pallet full...
