Tile cutters

I'm about to tile a kitchen floor, then do my bathroom then tile my small back yard.
I'm.on a budget say about £50.
Am I better off with one that scores the tile or a powered diamond wheel jobbie.
I've looked on screwfix and Tool station and both have a fair range to choose from

You can easily pick up a used wet tile cutter for around a tenner. Use it, sell it on for a tenner, job done.

Depending on the size of your tiles !
Rubi tile cutter - scores the tile, quick and very easy to use and works very well. It only does straight cuts,
Diamond wet tile cutter, for all the fiddley bits, but you get a wet streak down your chest
I'm not sure any of these would be suitable for 'outside tiling'

edit: you will need both of these to make the job easy !

Both are handy and are suited to different applications. To cut across a tile from edge to edge the score and pressure pad/crack type are quick and no mess. If you need a profile cut to fit a tile around say a corner then the diamond wheel type are quick and easy, otherwise you will have to hand score and then nibble out the waste.

I know, I was only joking.... my tile cutter could be better classed as workshop furniture, handy about once every 5 years or so, rest of the time just sits there.......

Some times just won't score nicely and a wet saw is needed.
What size tiles out of curiosity

Where and how does this "wench" need to be adjustable.

I only enquire as i may need one of my own

Never had much luck with scoring and break. Have an old but good diamond one, great for straight cuts. dont stand in line when it starts up or you get wet!
For fitting odd shapes I used the cordless angry grinder with a lidl diamond wheel - they have these currently, pack of 4, £4.
Even wet cutting it makes a bit of dust, wear respirator.

Tiles 300x600mm for the kitchen.
I've managed to borrow a diamond wheel one for now. Handy.
If I like it I'll possibly buy one.
For the yard I reckon it might have to be angle grinder and stone cutting disc

This is what you need for cutting lots of stone! Make sure you get the dust suppression kit as well or your lungs and neighbours will hate you!

managed for years with just a straight cut tile cutter

and a good pair of pliers for nibberling out tiles

if you dont want the expense take your time

the tile cutter we have is a large one for the big tiles so thats the one thats been upgraded

we also have the diamond cutter but to be honest its good but for a cheapie its done its job within reason

still prefer the nibbler but if your going to nibble nibble to the rear of the tile and not towards the front of the tile

Hi, yes it's open to interpretation, could mean bendy, flexible, forgiving, I'm sure there could be more.

Electric diamond cutter goid for fiddly hits but slow going and can chip edges, score and snap much quicker and cleaner edges

here's mine, can't remember what I paid for it, wasn't that dear, maybe around 50-60 euros? had it easily 20 years, since we bought the house. Must have paid for itself a dozen times over...

I put a longer board under it so I can kneel on it, stops it moving around when your scoring, not a problem for the small tiles, but for the bigger floor type tiles they can slide away from you, as I push the cutter rather than pull it. I find it's more reliable as your pushing the tile against the support...

edit, just checked out of idle curiosity, they're around 30 euros delivered...

Bought a Wicks diamond wheel one a couple of decades ago . . . three houses, several kitchens, bathrooms, floors, porches, still going strong. No dust unless you let the tray under the wheel loose too much water - which you can tell once it stops slinging copious amounts of sludge and water up the wall, you, across the floor etc
