Hi there i currently mig weld but would like to do codings in tig stainless
And carbon .any rough idea how long it usually takes and is ther much difference in difficulty between stainless and carbon..because training is 200 a day.and lastly somebody i know works on a refinery said could get me weld test if had codings is it possible to get a start on jobs like these with just codings and no experience any help would be grateful thanks for your time in reading this and hopefully replys

Been coded and been experienced are totally different. It's like passing your car test and saying you can drive.but the difference is codings have a short shelf life. Go and get some hands on experience and learn the skill.

Totally understand what your saying dude was thinking down them lines my self but is it ever possible to gain experience on jobs like that after all hands on is best experience but like you said codings have a shelf life so didnt want to waste thousands for nothing

Refinary work could be 100% X ray . awkward stuff not at chest height where the torch doesnt fit in between the pipes youve to weld.the back of the pipe visible with a mirror.just.
5-10 years experience really

Paying for training with a coding test at the end will probably cost at least £4-5k, but without any experience chances of finding a job even with codes are limited.

It looks restricted to someone without real world experience.you wouldn't break a sweat doing it after a few tight access butts

Learn to tig weld first. Asme1X 6G codings are a long way off and useless unless your lined up to walk in to a career that requires it. The way it works usually is you learn the skill from a basic to advanced level over time. You get your self into a position where you can achieve several codings when you need to. You are now in a strong position to go hunting. Some companies require you to have ability to pass codes some require you to have them. If it's the latter you'll be weld tested and they will put you through the codes. If not then this is the moment you go out and get the coding. You see it's a long way down the road if your to make use of a coding. I don't have any in date any more and I've never held a 6G. But! I've carried that joint out a lot of times to the point I can weld a 6G open tig route and pass it if required. Get to that position first. Runnach is a member on here who Carrys out welder training and I believe he does it for all skill levels even prepping guys for such codings. He's the man you need to speak with and will point you in the best direction.
