tig welding for a bellhousing needed

This might be the wrong forum to post - but is someone happy to take on a cut and shut project on a rover v8 bellhousing. I need a couple of inches
taken out of it to make it shorter - would assume some sort of jig also needs to be made to be certain the faces are still parallel afterwards. Do they need to be machined as well...

The faces of the cut of parts need to be machined before welding to give any chance of accuracy, and I would suggest machining a spigot arrangement so the 2 parts fit together nicely, then clamping together in a jig made of something like 50mm box section. Sounds a very fiddly job, which is going to be only too easy to screw up completely, and quite difficult to get right.

Might be well worth while seeing if you buy a bell housing which is shorter already, which will work in your application.

I do this sort of thing quite a lot and yes you need to machine the faces for accuracy, also dowel the 2 parts together to ensure alignment.

I already knew it would be a pain to do but not by how much....
Would it really be better/easier/cheaper to find a shorter bellhousing and
live with two adapter plates - of course it's a nut and bolt job then....

What gearbox are you trying to mate up with v8 bell housing as if you check
the landrover gearbox bellhousings there are several different lengths of them ? for manual boxes and different lengths for the auto boxes as well ,,,,

I have found Ashcroft very helpful but for a r380 gearbox to a rover v8 dropped into a series it's hundreds of pounds worth of bellhousing and adapter - of course might still be less than a tig project ...

Unfortunately unless you are able to do the machining work required yourself, and make a fixture to hold everything in place, then the cost of this work is probably going to be greater than simply buying the correct part, or adapting something from another vehicle.

somewhere in the gararge i have an R380 with shortend bellhouseing. transfer case on it is broken tho
