I would appreciate if you can log your progress mate. My son wants to learn to weld aluminum. A guy we used to employ could ali weld like nothing I have seen before he was awesome. He could fabricate as well but was the most idle bloke I know.

He had a Butters tig (dont know the model) but my son is convinced he could weld well because of the machine. ...... anyway like you I am now in the market for a tig


BUT and this is where the forum members come in but I remember a fairly recent post where a guy wrote he had just purchased a very economical TIG welder and it had transformed his welding.

I am sure it was this forum so can anybody remember a post like that????

Amazing I just tripped over it. It was not a forum post but in a tutorial.

that was one the selling points for me for buying that model, 100% @ 160amps,

if you need more than that you need a bigger welder?

What thickness ali will it weld in the real world ...not just on paper lol

How have you found it and can you compare to others you have used??

Haven't used it in any ali stuff but I will recommend this welder to anyone.

The thickest i've done on ali with my 200amp r-tech was welding an oil fitting to the centre of a 100mm disc that was about? 12mm thick,
Took a fair bit of preheat with the torch to get it up to temperature and although it welded ok it was a bit beyond its capability,
Comfortably it'll do 6-8mm ali depending on prep and type of joint.

Had the r-tech nearly 2 years now,
Had a Cebora for 15 years and used various Miller tigs in a previous job.
Obviously the Millers are great but for the money the r-tech is a good machine,
Being an inverter it doesn't need a huge input current,
Yeah the fan is a bit noisy but you get used to it,
The hf does not fire the arc as clean as some others i've used, not a problem just different.

It doesn't stop at two years either as just before your kit reaches that date they contact you to offer you the FULL two year collect and return warranty again for the sum of £99!

Factor in that, their service and that the main expensive bit inside is European and not Chinese and there's my reason why I got one.

Now that is worth the money. I hate it when places like comet offer you 2 years paid warranty when you get a 1 year one free anyway. That sounds like they have faith in their own equipment anyway.

Looks like pennies will have to be saved.

I have to say rtech realy are showing the way. In how to look after their customers, even 2 yrs after the intial sale. Firstly the faith they can offer warranty after 2 yrs and the cost to the owner. Top marks if you are reading this guys at r tech

For those that don't know I did own an r tech, sold it to finance a kemppi. If I need another set it will be an r tech unit

This is the first i've heard of an additional 2 year optional warranty,
My r-tech ac/dc 201 will be 2 years old in about feb next year so i'll certainly be considering the £99 deal,
should you be unlucky enough to need it a single repair and parts with postal charges both ways could possibly cost more than £99?

Before ordering my Tig set I phoned them to ask a few questions, they volunteered the information on the extended warranty, I didn't ask. I would of still gone ahead with the purchase but the news of the extra warranty available certainly wiped out any of the competition, even at three times the price!

Think they should put it on their web-site though . . . it's a huge factor in choosing a "non-commercial" machine?
