tig torch

im looking to buy a tig torch and lead to use with my Lincoln 140 inverter which will only work as scratch start, but in the future I plan to buy a hf start dc pulse tig welder, can I buy a torch and lead that will work with both machines? if so any suggestions on which type I should buy id like one with a good flexability near the torch any advice appreciated as im new to tig welding

Yes. You can buy a standard torch with a dins connection and gas line for your SS tig. Should you need a switch for the new hf unit you can buy a clip on switch with cable as a standard item. The only thing you may need to source is the right switch plug. If your new machine has a foot pedal you won't even need the switch it will be a straight forward swap around.

As usual spot on Richard but I think that you are forgetting something, during the time that arcspeed will be using a scratch start rig a torch with a valve is almost essential without it the gas waste will be huge. His lincoln doesn't have a gas solenoid.

I got a WP9V (the V bit indicates its a valved torch), the dinze plug is an adaptor which has a hose fitting to take the gas line, so make sure you specify the right size dinze for your welder. As Richard says, I think you could use it on your new welder later, off the top of my head, I would say you just run a short gas hose from the dinze adaptor with a fitting on t'other end to hook up to your welder, clip on the switch kit and Robert is your fathers brother.Needs confirmation by someone more xperienced than me though.
I gave my WP9V kit away and regrettted it; as it could have made a very portable basic TIG set up using one of the small bottles.

Only trouble with doing that is you would have two valves in the gas flow, one in the torch and one in the machine, it would still work but its not the ideal solution.

thanks for the advice and information guys, so I need a valved tig torch the right din size for my Lincoln 140 inverter, I presume if I decide which hf tig welder im going buy I could by a torch with the correct switch conection and still use it on my Lincoln inverter until I buy the new machine?

Well 9 times out of 10 when u buy a machine the torch is part of the package.
