tig pedal?

i i put a link on here little while ago showing my new tig welder , it has a switch under the dails that says panel at top and if you switch it down it has a box with a arrow in it and about a 5-6 pin round connector , is this for a pedal ?

is it easier to learn with a pedal or with out then go to a pedal?

Yes and, err, yes! A box with an arrow through it generally means 'remote'. IMO it's easier to learn with a pedal but if you intend doing positional work in the future where a pedal would be impractical then learning without is probably no bad thing.

this is auction i got it from ... not 100 % sure on dails i think they are slope in / out and one dial for gas but not sure?

Theres normally a slop up/slop down.. post gas/pre-gas
Sometimes you can adjust the frequency/wave length

Cant really tell from that pic on ebay..

Just need a good play with it

Yes and No,

In a perfect world, machines have 5 pins..

Usually Pin 1 & 2 are the trigger and pins 3,4 and 5 are the pot which varies the current.

But every machine is different.

I think i have a manual for this machine at work, ill see if i can dig it out then i can give you the correct combination

You must get a pedal with the correct pot in,

eg some machines need a 10k pot in the pedal and some require a 4k7 pot

I'm just starting out my TIG welding skillset. My Cemont has got a pedal and I've found it quite easy to learn with the pedal. I don't have to worry about adjusting knobs on the welder, I just learn to look at the puddle and see whether I need more pedal or less. I've never welded without the pedal so the day I need to crawl into some dark corner and do some welding I'll have to learn the button.

If you have a plant that has slope in, slope out controls, use this for controlling heat input, running wire through finggies ect............

button under ac balance is 4t 2t
the 2 knobs under the amps knob are slope in out
the one on right is gas i guess but only the one????
button under that for ac dc and stick
switch in middle for using knobs or pedal???

is that 5 pin round connector for pedal fairly common the few i seen have had a 2 pin and 3 pin connector rather then 1

I didn't fancy lobbing out £125 for the maker's pedal for my set so I made my own.
Guitar volume control pedal, £12 from Ebay. Suitable connector, microswitch and some cable, rummaged from the racks at work.
Pot from Maplins (only 'cos we didn't have one at work ).
I arranged the microswitch so that you have to depress the pedal to minimum to hit the switch; this fires up the TIG which is obviously set to 'remote' and 'latch'. Then when you've finished it's pedal to minimum, trip the switch and the arc drops out.
The only drawback is that the pot is operated by a rack and pinion; the original pot had something like 330 degrees rotation and the new one only the usual 290 or whatever it is, so I get less than full span.
Still, what do you want for under £20...

I bought a sewing machine pedal. It had a stack of carbon disks that the pedal pushed on. Not useful for any other use.

I ended up making my own.
