Tig instruction wanted (Central Scotland)

Hi,

I'm looking for someone that can provide some instruction to a tig newbie. I'm an experienced brazer/gas welder but would like to get into doing some tig work. Specifically on thin wall tubes. I realise I'm not going to be able to jump straight in on that type of material and I have no fixed timescales, I'd like to spend as much time as I can practicing.

I have a decent Lincoln DC Inverter and ideally I'd like to spend a couple of hours (at least) with someone who knows what they're are doing and can provide some one on one instruction. Point me in the right direction....

I'm in central Scotland (Livingston) and am happy to host in our workshop or will travel anywhere in Central Scotland if that makes more sense.

I'm very flexible on time so this could be during the day or in the evenings.

Obviously, I'm happy to pay the going rate.

If anyone could do this or could point me to someone who could, that would be great.

Too far from me fella. Have you had a look at the tutorials.

Everyone has different methods. I'd start off with a clean piece of steel about 1-2mm thick. Nice sharp tungsten and practice keeping the arc length a constant distance from the workpeice, so .75mm 1.25 for 1-2mm steel. Once you can keep a constant distance without dunkin the tungsten and after you have mastered feeding the rod through your hand while watching TV etc,, you can then move on to adding filler to the weld pool. The reason I suggest this method is you only need to concentrate on one thing at a time.

If you haven't bought Tungstens then start with 1.6mm and A15 filler. As soon as you dip, stop and resharpen.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I will of course go through the tons of tutorials but I figure some one on one instruction would speed things along a bit.

It would help to have someone to show you, but I would say you'll find it quite easy if your a gas welder, I found feeding the rod the hardest thing to learn.

i was told by a friend of mine been tig welding for many years if you can gas weld you will find tig welding realy easy.
i can gas weld and found tig welding just as easy you just have more control over the weld and a foot pedal realy helps alot.
