TIG filler rods

Anyone know where I can get some m/s filler rods? Only place here wants nigh on £60 for 5Kg 1.6mm and £55 for 5kg of 2.4mm jobbies
I'm sure that I can get cheaper (including postage) elsewhere.

As I'm just trying to teach myself tig £60 for rods and £15 for a disposable bottle of argon (10 mins at best) is stretching the budget a bit

have you tried ebay mate? how much (approx) would postage be for 5kg to jersey from england?

There is a BOC gas and gear centre on Jersey.

They will do larger bottles and you will be able to get tig wire from them

Ebay's a rip off postage wise (if at all) unfortunately and BOC are only a franchise, gas only.
Was hoping to have a play first (suprising how quickly a 1m rod disappears ) before getting a argon cylinder (presume that would cover most things).

is postage in general prohibitive? some nice person in england could maybe post you some over? what about a supplier in france?

Thanks Simon, postage shouldn't be much more (if at all) but people tend to use it as an excuse to not deduct VAT (have our own version of it here)
That's why I'll never use MachineMart again, deducted VAT and charged £30 postage to send an air drill, which arrived in a jiffy bag marked up at £2.40 P&P
Given me an idea though, some nice person might buy some and send them over at cost plus some extra beer vouchers

i would be more than happy to send you stuff over but it would be double the postage cost from someone in england plenty of helpful people on here someone will come to your rescue

Yes it is, very. Something often overlooked by people when they are shopping around. For instance, a 3Kg.packet to Jersey would cost £8.94 (Royal Mail). That would be the probable weight of an Argon gas canister, a kilo of mixed rods & suitable packaging (which again costs ). Private carriers generally want around 5-6 times that!
I'd be happy to send you a small quantity of rods HasBean, with postage at my cost, but there's no getting round the postage (a few rods in a postal tube without the argon gas canister shouldn't be so bad).

To be honest Simon I'm not sure I've got a Y bottle of Argoshield Universal that I've had for 18 months now. Standard BOC prices minus VAT (but plus Jersey GST )

To be honest by the time I've finished what's left of my disposable cylinders it'll probably be cheaper to invest in a smaller sized bottle of BOC argon than buy anymore (if my tig's crap, as it seems to be the case at this time, at least I could use it on the mig I guess )
