Tig Courses

Hi,

I have been asked by work to look into Tig welding courses that are available in the UK.

there will be 5/6 people to be trained and skills set range from people who attended a basic 1 day tig course 20 yrs ago and little experience since to people who do stainless tig occasionally.

We have been trying Titanium welding also as we had to outsource a small job that cost £400 for 8 spot welds. We have been successful in the titanium welding through a lot of trial and error and reading any literature that was available.

We would be definitely looking for a TIG course that will teach us how to develop on the basics, such as ally/stainless and refining these skills.

and secondly a course for 1 or 2 of us that could do titanium.

the courses don't necessarily need to be coded.

can anyone recommend somewhere? first hand experience of the course would be good? UK wide or local to the North East would be a bonus.

Sometimes I weld titanium day in day out depends what we are making and over 20 years thats been lots of stuff that fies and goes fast, do you have some special requirement in a purge chamber or something? £400 QUID FOR SPOT WELDS your being mugged off mate if you can spare an afternoon id go through it with in my own shop, you spot welding TI is pretty simple

Cheers for that composite, yeah we knew it was a rip off for the spot welds, but we were on a tight deadline. We are managing to do the titanium welds it is 0.6mm tubing we have made a back purging arrangement up and are able to achieve welds that hold and are near clean silver welds with little heat tint. we would just like to get a bit of teaching and pointers from a pro.

I know most people that do Ti welding like to keep all skills to themselves as that is how they make there living.

0.6 to 0.9 is what we do on bike tube here, same thing using back purge and sometimes a backing dams to catch argon , I don't do courses but I'm happy to share the knowledge chap

I suppose a lot of it depends on if the welding firm had to go out and buy a full pack of the correct Ti filler rod for one little job. That's what usually kills it for me, I don't keep any and there are numerous grades. As soon as you quote for the filler the job isn't so desperate anymore lol.

Jim, We provided the filler to ensure that it was the same grade due to its use.
