Tig courses

Hi I'm new in these parts I have mig welded for years self taught I might add
My problem is I want to learn to tig weld and every local collage around me down south have stopped courses
A friend of mine tig welds for some company that do pressure vessels and all welds must be X-rayed so he is going to show me the basics but for the theriory siDe are theses online courses any good

Do you need a formal qualification ? as I'm sure you'd probably be able to find most if not all of the theory side of things online for free with a bit of searching, don't think you can beat the offer of one to one guidance from an experienced welder, welcome to the forum

By having practical sessions with your mate, this will give you a better understanding of underpinning knowledge, both of course go hand in hand, but nothing better than practical sessions for all the jigsaw pieces to fall into place!

I'll second what Norm said, I don't understand how an online course will produce a welder. Save your cash and spend it on a TIG welder to practice.

as the above have said, it didnt matter how much i read up about tig welding, the only way i got the hang of it and imporved was to buy the tig welder, sit down and ,lay weld after weld after weld untill i got the hang of it, obviously you will be of some advantage having a friend teach you as all i had was the internet

BUT i had allready learned MMA and mig ..

best to just practise and learn that way
