In a bit of a quandary concerning sticking T45 tubes together. The tubes get all their strength from heat treatment during the manufacturing process, and it was always brazed into preformed butts. That being said, I have seen a few examples of TIG brazing with very wide welds and plenty of gusseting, but my concern is whether or not it loses its strength and I get cracking around the joints. T45 clubmans spec can be MIG'd, but is not quite as strong.
Does anyone have any tips for TIG brazing T45, keeping the heat as low as possible to prevent weakening of the tube - or should I sell the T45 and use something else? The tubing is for motorcycle frames, 50.8mm / 2" for the main part and 25.4mm / 1" for the seat tubes (both 2mm wall thickness), subframe etc.
