I have a small hole to fill in a cast iron piece. It's where a grub screw used to intercept the toolpost stud of my lathe's compound slide. The whole thing is rounded out (toolpost mounting) so I want to fill the grub screw hole, then mill/drill/tap the stud hole itself out to m18 or m20 (can't remember actual sizes and numbers off hand. existing rounded out threads are m16 or thereabouts)
I'm going to try some Sif Aluminium Bronze No32. I picked up some short lengths from an eBay seller.
I'm a bit confused though. eBay seller shows a Sif data sheet which seems to say 'DC Positive'. Sif brochure seems to show DC Negative. Other people on the internet are using it in AC. I suspect the latter (AC) are actually welding the base metal with it, while the DC use is actually brazing. Does that sound correct? I think for what I am doing, brazing will be perfectly fine and presumably much easier ?
