Thyristor or Inverter?

Hi I am new to Tig welding and looking for an ac machine. I noticed there were two main types thyristor or inverter (I think thats right). I cannot find any info on the virtues of each type. I have been looking at the Rtech 201, dont know if anyone has any experience of them. I am only looking for a hobby machine for ali mostly, so budget is a consideration as always. Just looking for a bit of advice on what to buy?

The two types are transformer and inverter. Some transformer machines use thyristors to control the current.

Inverters are more effiicient, lighter and smaller. However, they are much more complex.

Transformer machines are big, but are simple (especially for AC welding.)

Either can be reliable, the main factor is how much suport you get from the dealer. A box-mover would have the lowest-cost/highest profit units they will not offer much support on. A good supplier will have more expensive, reliable units that will not lose money on having to support lots of warranty repairs.

I've got a r-tech 180dc inverter, and I'm very pleased with it. R-tech folks are very customer focused, highly recommend.
Ought to drop Weldequip a PM and Gasman too, see what they can offer.

I've had dealings with all three and they are all good.
