Those cheapo eBay TIG welders...

Hi,

New member here!

I've currently got a SIP 140 Weldmate and a Clarke 110 MIG.

I was looking at getting a TIG - just a basic one, and I'm not interested in AC aluminium welding...

Scratch start sound primitive - is it all that bad??

HF start, and £175 delivered for this here.

All I want to do is weld up some stainless exhaust piping and a flange for my Turbo project.

Any comments - would I really be wasting my money?

At that price you can afford to do the job & bin it when it goes wrong... you are into £6-700 for something 'proper'!
HF start is definately better & easier to use than Scratch-Start.

Hi,

This is it - I'm not welding a reactor together, and my life doesnt depend on the weld.

I think I'll go for one of these cheapo ones.

I'm watching the chinese plasma thread - last time I looked it was just an exposed terminal or something.

My SIP Weldmate is similar - you can touch the terminals on the box if you try. I found this pic on the web:

Then also found this pic, which seems to have updated connectors at the welder side:

So I'm used to always turning the welder off when going near the leads!

ok its not 200 amps like the one you posted but it you get the idea, you just need to know when to snipe

OK Guys,

Bearing in mind this is for very light occasional hobby use, I just spent £133 + £20 postage on a new Berlan 180A HF from eBay here

From what I've found out so far, they come with a German mains plug and German instructions.

Feedback on the seller (werkzeuge-online) seems good - people seem generally very pleased with the units when they've received them.

Fingers crossed...

These cheap welders are all very tempting but I think I'll still get an inverter fusion from weldequip! Just want good customer service and somthing that is good quality. My pennies are almost saved up!!!
