Thinning 2k paint

I know the recommendation is 2:1 plus 10% but how far can I thin it down? I want to do some thin coats because my gun is struggling with the airfed mask to breathe. My last job ended up very dry and I have had to flat off most of it. I did try an experiment when I ran out of paint ( don't ask ) with a splash of thinners in the gun. Spraying that gave a very nice smooth finish, so is there a problem with more than recommended thinner?

You can thin it further but if the gun is struggling due to airfed mask then I would either add another small compressor or get a spraygun with less air requirements. I just manage with a clarke se16 compressor with an airfed mask and devilbiss sri pro, I have found this very good for painting whole panels, also remember that if the air runs low you are risking inhaling the fumes so not ideal at all.
You can also have dry paint with incorrect application technique as I well know from my learning process

I am going to try seperate compressors next time. At the moment I have a pair of 3HP connected together via their regulators, but I suspect the air is being too restricted like that. I did it that way to get the best filtration, but I will just use that on the visor. Gun is the FMT 3007 kit LVLP.

Have you used water based paints ? if so what are the down sides slow drying, requires oven, cost etc.
Is the technique different for application.
Have used coach finishes both sprayed & brushed, (oil based). cellulose, acrylics, polyurethanes, (my favorite) 2K & even prayed resin coats, (exciting to get it on & cleaned out of gun before going off) never had a go at water based

In my opinion water based is not for home use. Solvent base is so much better anyway.

Was not thinking of home, Her indoors would have me nailed to door if I started paint process at home, started there nearly 51 tears ago she was not keen then
We have 3 Co that do a variety of work, painting some products is a growing part of one & was wondering if it was worth perusing WBP with users before wasting Reps time or ours

remeber its only the basecoat thats water based in most cases ...still use traditional primer and clear
