Thinner problem

I buy gunwash grade for 90% of my use,25L lasts me over a year,my current drum won’t clean brushes,don’t remember when in the age cycle I first noticed this,but after 6 months I rang to complain,supplier stated it’s too old now,I store it outside under the hedge,have done for years,no sign of water ingress.
It smells thinnery,is it getting diluted at the refinery?saving money like other products? Anyone else noticing this problem? Thanks.

i think what i have now is weaker than what was around 15-20 years ago , so yeah can well believe it

Gunwash is generally recycled thinners.
As them for a MSDS, that will tell you exactly whats in it.

Which paint are you using? Different paints can require different solvents.

These are a selection of the same paints I’ve always used with this product from the same supplier.

I find that gunwash or standard thinners can vary greatly in quality and strength. It always contains a % of water and if it is in a steel drum it can rust the bottom of the drum.

I guess if it is a recycled product the regulations regarding the % content of active product has a large range. Even 2 drums from the same maker can be different.
Better quality stuff will be clear but most of it has a yellow tinge.

Best stuff I ever got was direct from a paint manufacturer. They buy it in 1000l cubes and sell if off in 20l drums.
