One of our computer room 3ph UPS units went pop so the W&E electrical contractors installed a replacement for us. Went to site today to commision and it was generating a fault. Popped the back off to have a look and found the cause. Not sure if you can spot it from the photo and no its not the missing bolt. Unless you work on these you will need to zoom in on the photo to spot the error

Bottom terminal back right hand on connector strip has a burnt or missing connection screw, its 3ph so the colour is only a phase marker.

Never seen inside one before, let alone worked on one.

It's not the 1st one he's done for us,. last week we had a 40kva unit installed in another computer room, he managed to get that one right, well it's working but will be double checking it today just in case

That's a toddler, 20kva, biggest we have is 120kva, but that's a modular unit with room to expand to 200kva

How about this one then... we have Economy 7 at work that heats up the storage heaters at night, well it's been getting colder so boss switched the 2nd heater on and went home for the night, Came back in the morning and the place is freezing. After repeatably ringing the sparky who last "fixed" the heating and getting no response we decided to have a look at it ourselves (we are competent but not registered) anyway we found the output from the time switch was wired directly to the feed to the heaters, the contactor that he changed last time he "fixed" the heating is sat there doing sweet f.a. so the poor time switch had been managing to supply the power for 1 storage heater but when we turned the 2nd heater to come on as well the time switch burnt itself out.

The big blue one should be where the missing bolt is, I'd taken the bolt out to move it then decided to take a picture

If you zoom in you can just make out the markings on the board that tell you what each connection is

I had a customer who decided he wanted 2 computers networking. After I installed the cards and the co-ax cable (Sage Mainlan) the 2nd computer blew up. He was all for suing me but it turned out that he had been working on the building electrics and left an earth wire floating near a live. This made contact with the live and took the computer out. What was more frightening was the fact that an electric kettle in the room was also live.
