got up early saturday morning to go shooting/beating at a sindicated shoot and remembered I had my chainsaw etc in the boot of the car and didn't want it rattling about. I took all the stuff out and put it in the shed, but me being me I was running late as usual, and forgot to put the locks on and switch on the alarm! Only noticed last night that the shed door was open, and you will probably have guessed by now that my little husky saw has gone! I will take that one on the chin for not locking up and learn my lesson, but what is really concerning me is wether or not they spotted the welders, compressor, table saw, almost full snap on toolbox and all the other tools that lurk in there. Then there is all the stuff in the garden, lawn tractor, trailer, patio heater, gas barbecue etc. I live reasonably rural on a pretty much one track road and have never had a problem before, don't know wether this was an opportunistic theft or wether someone has seen me sawing up logs in the garden? Really paranoid now, hope I catch them lurking about as they might just get a wee surprise Do we have a 2" box section over the head smiley?

Fingers crossed that they are ust dopey junkeys after their next fix and too stupid to notice the rest of it. Dodgy situation to find yourself in. They sound like oportunists grabbing the first thing they can.

Gutted for you, and know what you mean about them clocking the rest of your gear. The b*ggers seem to be everywhere now. I'm always really careful about doing any work 'on display' just in case. Sad state of affairs really

I have had stuff stolen before and it really does make you see things differently. "Oh look there is a chain saw that no-one is using at the moment, it must mean that it's mine then!!" I'd like to drive them onto the guns. "Here's some lead that I'm not using at the moment. Perhaps you'd like it??"

Not sport, just fun Hope ther's not too many veggies on here! Although in my defence all the birds that are shot are free range and all are eaten (except for any foxes that stupidly go into the open) Hopefully they just tripped over the saw that I left right at the door and thought that will do. I also hope that they have never seen the damage a saw can cause, I will be keeping an eye out in the local rag for "Local Resident Loses Arm In Chainsaw Incident"
To bring it back to reallity, I have worked hard for everything I own. I have been made redundant twice in the last year and never once thought of stealing, begging or scrounging, I got off my ass and did what I had to do to support my familly, including cutting grass, chopping logs, fixing gutters......in fact anything that would bring some cash in to pay the bills, and these people seem to think it's right to steal off you to support themselves! And the worst of it is, if I caught them in the act and twatted them, I would be the one facing jail!!!

Hi,

sorry to hear about your problems. It's nice to live away from other people but it's also nice to have someone close by to keep an eye on things when you're away.

I'd be really worried too but I guess there's not much you can do with the equipment?

I've got double locks on everything, hand and power-tools locked in a cabinet inside the workshop and external security lighting but I sometimes think there's more I could do.

Is your insurance up to date?

I keep meaning to spend a day having an 'inventory' and taking digital photos of everything to prove to the insurance that I really had it, but it's getting around to it that's the problem.

Anyhow, I hope that's the last visit you get.

Sorry to hear of the loss.

Take the recording details as already stated ... sadly you are likely to be revisited as it's very likely you are now on a steal to order shopping list.

Where I used to live in East Anglia it was almost a normal occurance for a second break in or a third and a fourth etc., for the sods used mobile phones to take pictures , waited till they had a full shopping list 50 or so miles away ... then after the clear out they waited a few months for the insurers to cough up and come and collect the brand new replacement gear.

My friend Barry ( a farmer ) has been hit so many times insurers will not insure him for theft unless he has a £5000 excess policy .

We built a wrought iron Expamet security cage around a porta cabin in one of his barns and stored the light gear in it . only to find that one day around lunch time some one had oxycut into the barn and opened the cage leaving nothing.

Barry lives at about the mid point of a two mile long single track road ...No one down the road either side saw anything strange ..no unusual vehicles
He has lost all the portable gear four times to my knowledge, once whilst he was at his grand childs christening .

He's lost all the farms tools, welders, plasma cutteers , ride on's , power washers, sprayers ,two mini tractors and asociated implements as well as having his bungalow turned over despite having two bloody great big GSD's with jaws like mechanical diggers inside it.


You might or might not hate to think about auto floods a bit past the normal road ways and paths as well as one or two around the property.

It might be a wise idea to have some sort of loud volume sounder system not connected to the lights as well as using a " response" alarm system that dials your mobile and several others ( self install for about £200 if you can afford it ).

See if you can get any advice from the local countryside watch people as well as reporting the theft to the police .

We got help to set up our own Countryside Watch group and as a result got good insurance rates and some " interesting " goodies on loan from the police .

its called opertunist thieves they just go round looking and take the odd item that sells maybe buy a bag of smack for a few quidi had van widow smashed cos i l eft mount in van for my gps but it was well hidden cost me 160 quid to get new one fitted and lost 2 hours work

Chances are if you live in a rural location they probably sore u using it and planned it, and will come back for the rest, theres loads of theiving smack heads where i live, the only way to stop them is to put the bas**rds in hospital

Now here is a thought .

Keep yer lugs open for any one within 1/2 mile using one and trace the sound see who is using it and if it looks like yours.
