Thicker earth cable upgrade

To those people that have upgraded their mig welder with a thicker earth wire, I was wondering how you installed the thicker earth wire?

I have cut the earth wire inside the welder (close to the induction coil thing it comes out of), crimped a ring terminal to it and then bolted that to the new thicker earth wire which also has a ring terminal crimped to it. I think this should be okay, just wondering how others have done it?

That should be fine, the short length of slightly thinner cable won't matter. Make sure the rings & bolt don't touch any metalwork though, including the chassis of the welder.

Yep have made sure that the ring terminals and bolts are properly insulated.

Can definitely notice an improvement in the arc with a thick cable and proper earth clamp.

Just bolted it to the front panel and connected the internal cable to the back of it with the supplied ring termimsl

I just used a piece of copper pipe and crimped one end to the machines coil (Totally removing the thin standard cable) and then stuffed the new wire inside the other end of the pipe and crimped that also. Works like a charm on my 151te.

Whilst your there you could put a longer mains lead on the welder and maybe change it so it comes from the back instead of the front.

I like the idea of that aswell, sounds like a good idea does that...
