Thermostat control for space heater?

Wonder if anyone made a thermostat control to switch kerosene space heater? Was thinking of using a central heating thermostat, linked to a socket which heater could be plugged into. There are a few things along these lines on the market, but seem to be about £100 mark, which is very costly when parts to make likely to cost maybe £20.

Thats what i was going going to do when i had a parafin fired soace heater,
The idea was also to wire in a central heating adjustable stat next to the 13amp plug.

I used to use a standard room thermostat for my space heater just wired it with a plug and socket so the space heater could remain independant if needed, I still have the thermostat but it made its way into a cupboard with a tube heater for fermenting wine

My Gas powered space heater need to be manually started with a gas on then piezo sparker and the gas is held on with a thermocouple. if the flame goes our the gas is cut.
Is this the same for Kero heaters, If so how are you going to re ignite the fuel?

No kero you just switch on and go

Hi, the oil heater have a fan and pump arrangement that sprays a mist of oil across a spark plug in the airstream.

doesn't Kero have a shut down sequence to cool the burner down so you can't just turn the power off

They actually work like a spray gun, they have an air pump which blows across a syphone tube

a lot better than the one i used to use then used to stink best way was just run it out of fuel

Did you ever service it ? And take the fuel jet apart they do sometimes get dirt stuck in them and that causes bad combustion and starting problems

I have a couple of Master kero space heaters, one of them almost new and FOC due to a hole in the fuel tank, the other non running £60 Ebay. Spent £100 on parts for the Ebay one, and both properly serviced. Work very well, no smells or fumes, and perfect for workshop use with a thermostat. Problem with cheap and nasty space heaters is that parts are often difficult/impossible, and they certainly will smell and smoke, if not serviced yearly.

Mate bought a Clarke heater, and after one winters use has got problems with it. Like welders I think its a good to buy good idea to buy quality used, rather than cheap/nasty used.............
