But i guess i can spur of the socket to a 16amp RCD with a 16amp 3 pin plug in the workshop.
An RCD will not provide overcurrent protection, you need an RCCB or RCBO.

the cooker supply should be wired in 6.0mm cable with a 30 amp fuse feeding it or a minature circuit breaker . if the cooker controll unit is fitted with a 13 amp socket and your oven is only 13 amp plug it in there .then run a 6mm cable from the controll unit out to the garage consumer unit that allready has an rcd mainswitch fitted and also the 16 amp minature circuit breaker . then off in 2.5 to your welder socket and the jobs done . if its a double oven and both can be used at once and its fixed wired u cant take of the cooker circuitOk then, so i have a 30amp fuse in the mains consumer feeding 2.5 cable to the non switched cooker socket ( only supplies the oven not hob ), and then if i use 2.5 cable from the cooker socket, then whats the best thing in line before the 3 pin 16amp wall socket.
I take it then this is no good, or can these be fitted with a RCCD or RCBO?

no it wont it needs to be 4.0mm minimum for 30 amps fed of its own fuse not in with any other circuit . use 6.omm as theres hardly any diffrence in priceSounds a good job but a bit OTT for what i need as all i will ever be running is a welder no bigger than 250, and thats if ever increase from the 200 i am getting.
Will 2.5 do though from a used 30amp ring fuse to the workshop consumer?
I have been runnin g all my work shop from a the ring circuit off the house, infact have done for over 10 years, i have run a 3hp compressor, 40amp plasma, and a Clark 151TE mig, plus the bench drill etc etc, not all at once though LOL. All the work shop besides lighting was run by 2.5, never had any problem at all, i went this way as a sparky i knew suggested to do it that as i wouldnt of needed to go form the house C U.I had plenty pf spare spots in my consumer unit but to keep thing safe and seperate I got another small consumer unit added direct to the mains feed, run appropriately heavy steel metal armoured cable (10mm in my case) to the workshop and a donsumer unit with mcbs for lights and sockets.
