looking at that plaster and the colours that has been repaired before have you got a moisture meter ?

and when putting the plaster on dont play with it lay it on and leave then once gone off a bit flatten leave again and polish off

Put skimming on in 2 thin coats, wet on wet, this will make it easier to float of the second coat and give you the best finish that you are able to achieve.
