The onward march of the 1970s

I give up; I'm totally rooted in the most bland decade of the 20th Century. I just can't resist buying old cra... err, artifacts from the period. To follow up my tasteful fibreglass welding curtains with, I've just acquired a 1979 Vetter fairing for the 1979-designed GS850 (but it's an '80 bike, phew).
At least it's in keeping with the era of the bike, so it won't look jarring, and will keep my hands, legs and tootsies warm this winter.

Bland??? it was a great period, you could buy good stuff all over the place and prices had not been ruined by ebay and millers guides., even used to get old motorbikes given to 'get it out of the road'.

I remember when I had my BSA 650 in the 70's and got an ex police fairing, one of those great big white one's with half an acre of windscreen, some fast metal bashing for brackets and a bit of chopping here and there and it fitted.

What a difference it made on a cold day but the normal engine rattles and bangs of an old brit bike were echoed to ear drum bursting levels.

Ditto to above. The 70s was pretty much an era when you could look at a vehicle and recognise all the components, see why its broken and have the abillity to fix it with logic and mechanics not electronics and I.T where mechanics were mechanics not just fitters. Its one of the reasons i now drive cars for a living and fix old cra....er, artifacts of the period for pleasure.

They were the days if you wanted a gear box for your Bsa A10 or a different petrol tank to make a chopper your mates would probably have one and if they didn't they knew somebody who has and it would cost you a couple of quid or a packet of Park Drive fags.

I've got a huge "period" (Police type) Rickman fairing with proper subframe to fit my 1979 Honda CB400A Hondamatic.

I have one of these Rickman 1/2 fairings in the loft complete and unused inherited from my brother when he died. It hung on me and my brothers bedroom wall through my childhood in the 70's & 80's until he took it to his loft, destined for my '95 Speed Triple. Always liked the 3/4 fairing on the Rickman CR750.

I used to have one of those, it was great whilst riding but a right bugger when you wanted to move the bike around whilst stationary

Memory of these is probably why I can't quite bring myself to rip off the XJ900F fairing yet - I enjoy riding it too much with that half-fairing. It will be a different story in the winter, though. If I can get the GS fully faired-up I can leave the XJ alone.

I know exactly those things - my Ma had one, so did my Gran, and they were in every flat and bedsit I ever knew.

I have loads of sealed beams lying around. If you use a relay you can wire them up so both high and dip come on at the same time and a useful increase in light output.
