The latest example of “How Stupid Can the News be”?

The beeb today stated that the South Antarctic expedition members were having their longest night of the year. What absolute tosh, rubbish and inaccuracy!!.

I regard nights as about an hour before ‘sunset’ and before ‘sunrise’ (inverted commas because the Sun stays perfectly still while it is the Earth that is revolving and orbiting the Sun).

I looked it up and found 24 hour darkness, at the british establishments on the Antarctic, was over a hundred days and as much as 175! Nights cannot be longer than 24 hours/day!

So King Charles’ message to the members was OK re the winter solstice, but the beeb were just stupid hype with their report.

As I've recently come to find, switching off the news and avoiding a lot of social media (and the nasty comments that now seems to be ok to post) is very good for the soul
It's funny how the world isn't such a bad place after all with that noise and negativity gone.

I deleted Facebook over a year ago now, stopped using Instagram a while before that, never used twitter...since coming away from social media completely I've found life is a lot quieter, a lot simpler and there are far less people in my life that want things, or want to try and convince you to see their point of view on a trivial matter that seems to be life or death to them...

Not a lot has changed in the last 30 year since they sung it!!
just replace TV with internet.

My Ex was a BBC Programme maker/director. (BAFTA award winning dont you know) having seen first hand how they operate and how she used to be asked to re shoot bits because it didn't have enough jeopardy/emotional engagement.
But when you think that when Eric Arthur Blair wrote 1984, he based the ministry of truth on this time at the BBC in 1952!! its been a source of indoctrination/misdirection for governments since its inception.

I actually read and listen to statements that are both written and spoken. This was just one of many that I thought was stupid, naive and not worthy of a supposed high quality public service. There are lots more, but I now don’t anticipate you even noticing many, if any.

Well for a "how stupid can the news be" it's a pretty lame example.

On the other hand, far worse in my opinion are people who are determined to find something to moan about no matter how trivial.

I'm afraid that is where you are making a basic error . The news is there to provide an oral or visual wall paper to give the people something to take their minds off the drudgery of normal life you are not expected to read or listen to it. Whatever next?
