The difference between the SWP and SWP redline?

Hi Guys

I bought the SWP220 from weldequip a couple of years ago and have been very pleased with it. I'm looking to get a slightly higher amp machine and was looking at the SWP, portamig or xcalibur 285 I then found an SWP280 redline for half the price. Now if all the SWP's come from the same factory would there be much a difference in quality? Obviously if it was a recognised cheaply made machine I'd run a mile but it looks strong and is made by a decent manufacturer so why the difference in price?! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

The MIG 220 is part of their professional range, there are three in the semi professional range, including the new inverter based one, and below the semi professional range there's the redline range, which the redline 280 is part of.

I'd get the number off the SWP website and phone and ask.

I'd be inclined to think that the redline range wasn't designed to take the volume of use that the professional range was even though the spec may look better in some cases. On the other thread you said you use the SWP 220 for 6 to 10 hours a day.

Built in the same factory doesn't necessarily mean built using the same parts or to the same standard.

Thanks for the advice! It would get used a lot, thats why I'm trying to out how much of a difference there is. Probably not worth taking a chance but I'll call anyway.

I ended up finding a really good deal on ebay for a BOC 200C. 3 weeks old, it was bought but the guy realised it was too big to do what he needed to do so had to buy a portable. Luckily for me nobody else bid so I got it for an awesome price. Gotta love ebay sometimes!!
