Can you believe thousands of people are building their careers on this and the bs at CERN etc of the back of hard working EU citizens.

Having worked in science and academia for the last few years before retiring I feel like I can say with some conviction the large proportions of the science community are totally wasting tax payers money.

to be fair, throughout history im sure theres been people complaining about money being spent on all sorts that then resulted in manned flight,electricity,the atom bomb etc. probably seemed pointless at the time but when the bigger picture unfurled..........

This. I don't think they've done bad given it's 500 million trillion miles away. This sort of image is very similar to when the first ever pictures were taken of pluto in 1965. Given a little time and resource I'd be confident that the resolution of the black hole image will improve too.
