The best drill found

Hi guys what's the best drill anyone's found for using hole saws as I'm fed up with chewing up gearboxes etc on them lol

the best one ive used and its as old as i am is an old wolf drill 2 speed bought in the 1970s or around that area and was my dads drill

just one thing with it if your not careful with it it will spin you around and can snatch the drill handle right out of your hands when it grabs something i know as its had me a few times

The one I had been using like you say was my dads old b&d from the early 90s but it's bitten the dust I think

A drill designed for core drills might be a good bet.

a 700w makita with a 2 speed gearbox i also have a 1000w metabo drill with a clutch otherwise its a broken wrist without

mines like this but in the white colour or dirty cream colour

its also a 240v model

its also had my wrist sore a few times when its grabbed it out of my hands i dont have the front handle for mine though

Suppose the thin sheet steel 0.8 up to 2mm and range off size holes tried a few cheapish drill but the best was the old b&d but it don't sound so good anymore lol

Have you tried Q-max cutters? I never use hole saws on thin steel anymore.

I had one of the old ally wolf drills that would rip your arm out of the socket if you kept hold of it then hit you round the head with the soggy end got rid as I didn't like the thought of it becoming a live body if a fault developed

Buy a hilti diamond core drill, that will take anything you throw at it and some !

Most of the d-handled drills are low geared, and good for core drilling/holesaws/big bits....

Makita 8406...Hitachi DC120V...Metabo etc all do them....

Hi I didn't catch what size holes you were drilling if they are small then I have found these great in thin sheet last for ages with a bit of cutting fluid too! Use mine every day for metal dis boards. Didn't pay that for them either should be able to get them for about 25quid! They will work in a 1/4 inch impact gun too!

Saw this last night working in the shed and decided to take a pic for this thread.
Its a 1/2 hp HAND drill, it takes morse taper bits right into the motor housing (that jacobs chuck is on a taper fitting and can be knocked out) and I never want to be holding it when it snags. I bought it for a tenner expressely for the job of spinning a honing tool on a nodding cylinder power honer I am building.

Imagine being handed this to go up a ladder with some big morse taper drill bit in it. Oh did I mention the trigger is latching, so you can switch it on and it stays going without needing a finger?
It's not homemade, theres a now unreadable id plate from the maker on it. Ideal to issue the new apprentices to teach them about torque...
