We've all heard the saying "It's always in the last place you look", my friend has new saying recently....

"It's always in the first place you looked but only after you've looked there for the 3rd time"

He said he's got to the point where he looks for a tool in the drawer, when he can't see it he shuts the drawer and quickly re-opens it just in case.

The hide me things right in front of my face pixies never go out of fashion!
They struck me last night when I couldn't find my bandsaw vice, and its not like its a tiny thing, in the end in frustration I resorted to holding the small parts I wanted to saw with mole grips. Then during final tidy up, there it was sat on the bench in plain view laughing silently at me. I've decided working around the missing tool frustrates the pixies enough to stop playing more effectively than trying to catch them out by opening drawers repeatedly. Though if the particular extra persistent ones that have my 1/2 inch breaker bar could get bored, I'll be more content...

I stripped down a freshly rebuilt Yamaha FZR engine once looking for where the locating dowel went that I had found in the parts pot on my bench.
Head off, barrels off, split the crankcase, quess what? Nothing missing!
Rebuilt it and it's still running to this day.
And to this day I still don't know where that dowel came from.

It came from me muh-ha-ha!, it's an old trick to put a "spare piece" on the bench amongst a stripped piece of machinery and then laugh as the poor apprentice scratches his head trying to work out where it goes.

I remember trying to sort a tractor once, scratching my head at all these odd parts, until the farmer finally admitted that when he took it apart he put all the bits in a box....that contained half an austin A40 gearbox!
