I think it had more character before he started , looks to shiny now.

Quick hand wire brush and oiling would probably have been good enough I suppose. Got as far as removing rust and dirt before oiling mine, that's how they will probably stay.

Angle is adjustable. Mount spacings wouldn't make a difference would they?

Base looks like it would have been bolted down to something but the brackets look a bit weedy given its size and weight.

Yes the spacing of the bottom mountings sets the angle at which the jaws become vertical at the same time they close iyswim. It looks like someone has welded a couple of brackets onto a bit of boiler plate and I assume the original base would have been adjustable. The "finished" vice won't hold a part vertical by default and is only adjustable by setting the jaws to meet at an offset. That would annoy me and be one of the first things I'd fix.

I do enjoy his vids. No twittering on for 20 minutes beforehand. Although I also wondered about the base, and more so about the trolly it’s all on.
