I used the same tool to sort out the rubber round my windscreen, which I'd scarred with a too vigorous pressure washing. Worked well - can't see the damage from a foot away.These things melt a wire staple into the plastic, but i played around and you can use it like a TIG with a cable tie as a filler rod and weld along a crack , this was my first go so is rough as a goats knee but it did work.
It got me a free customer return toolbox thrown away by a DIY store.

There is an attachment you can get to iron over the staples to cover them in. I'll have to save up another 59p.
