Testing a thread pitch using thread pins

Hi guys

I am back again seeking more assistance if you don't mind

I had posted a post regarding a suspect M14 1.5 pitch thread

With everything's help, it was determined the thread was out off minimum specs

Well, I am looking to put a email together and before I do, I need to ensure my measurements and calculations are correct

This leads me to my new question.

My thread pins say to use 0.040 thread pins and to use a constant of 1.7490 to do the calculations

Only when I measure my 0.040 pins I get 0.044

How do I factor in the error of my pins being slightly over sized

Can you not just use a thread pitch gauge or even a vernier to measure the pitch? Seems an easier option all round that worrying about correcting maths for wire diameters and what not...

Or are you looking to measure pitch diameter?

Just use an online thread wire calculator, tell it the diameter of your pins and it will give you nominal sizes

Whilst I understand your point, this assumes we are all born equal

Would you get frustrated if a person in a wheel chair can't play had, or chase with you ????

Well I was born dyslexic

I do my best

Perhaps you could also do your best to understand people who might not be as literate as yourself

I didn't read it that way. In fact, I almost posted something similar myself.

It was only because I had read your other posts that I realised that this one was probably referring to 'pitch diameter', and NOT 'pitch': Both equally valid properties of a thread.

I read it as a friendly nudge to be careful with terminology when drafting your complaint about the 'pitch diameter' of the thread on the crankshaft being undersized, to give you the best chance of explaining to the supplier the problem that you've found, without them having the opportunity to 'muddy the water'.

You're obviously sensitive to issues around dyslexia and literacy but please consider whether you may have overreacted in this case.

This reply isn't intended to cause further offence, but sometimes things come across wrong on forums, so if it does, I apologise in advance!

For what it's worth, like @Misterg , I also do not feel that @Agroshield was being unkind. Engineers can be hyper-rational at times and this can sometimes make their (well-intended) communication appear blunt.

Jesus man it's not that deep...he just meant check your terminology before sending an email complaining about stuff...it also makes it a lot easier for us to help you if we know what you need help with...

I suffer from dyslexia! dont feel so wound up, mine is numbers & letters and I have managed to just accept well meaning peoples help / advice, pushing it down peoples throat stops them helping the next person, I thought you just got a teck term mixed up, till you made a feature of it
Dictionary's in programs are a real wonder to me.

Same here....do you know how many times I have to erase an re-type when making all these postings ?
Seems you are getting along o.k. same as me, your postings read just fine.
