Testing a CAT 6 cable - Lazy camera

I have installed a 6 camera Hikvision camera system. System is really good. Apart from one camera.
The image on this particular camera 'sticks' or crashes after a few seconds real time viewing on the screen, the image disappears for 30 seconds, then reappears. It does this cycle forever.
I've swapped the camera round the channels and it just does the same on whichever channel it is plugged in so the NVR is ok. If you switch the system off and on, it behaves for a while, then reverts back to performing this nonsense.
I've tested the CAT 6 cable with a cheapomatic tester which is a basic continuity tester.

Ideas to resolve? Is there a better way to test the cable? Could it still be faulty even though this tester shows it is ok?

How long is the cable run? does it run parallel to any mains cables for more than a few centimetres? Those testers only really show continuity, maybe crossed pairs if you're lucky. The issue sounds like EMI or low bandwidth, usually due to a crimped / damaged cable or a poor crimp on the connector. Bandwidth testers are many £'s....

Power supply inadequate for that camera?

POE is showing at 19% capacity for all the cameras so i think power supply is ok.

This run is around 15-20m tops. It follows the same route as the other cables, and for the distance is travels beyond, there are no cables. I obviously can't rule out a damaged cable, but great care has been taken to install for that very reason.

Try a different camera on the suspect cable or suspect camera on a different cable.

Swap the camera with one of the others to rule out the camera ?

put the camera on a lead the same length ,just laid out on the floor ,, will tell you if its camera or cable issues

As above, swap the camera to a different cable, that will show you if it is the cable or the camera.
You can get a network validator which will give you the quality of the network connection - but if you have to ask the price....
Most likely it is a dodgy camera, could be a firmware issue - are they fully updated?

Caution here, this is only relevent if you are modifying the factory pigtail, any cabling for installation has to be the usual T568A or T568B standards.

Doubt it uses all the pairs in the cable, swap some pairs about

As others suggest above, I'd be doubting the camera before the cable, so swapping it out seems like the reasonable first step

Its a POE camera, so not a good idea unless you are very sure what speed and poe mode it is using.

I'd re crimp the ends of the cable first, easiest thing to do and in my experience one of the main failure points

after that, as above swap a camera.... or just run a new cable, whatever's easiest
