I too have one of the eBay auto-darkening welding helmets, works fine for my needs although I understand how professional welders would need better ones.

As you can see it's the same design, and it's also little bit pretty
After get the helmet i'll buy some "Beta" stickers

That looks as if it'll do the job nicely. I went for an eBay one with a larger viewing area which cost me c. £30 - here's mine with my [removable] idea for getting more light on the job

It's a good idea i always weld under the sun or a light to see the shadow of the rod (i have a fixed shade) .
But i hope that whit the new one, i'll need not do this

I find it good when I'm working inside the shed [practising TIG, which hasn't been for a while because of other circumstances ].

For MIG and MMA I have to weld outside so that I don't set fire to something.

It's not good idea, shielding gas might be disperded by the air currents (wind, and other cause)

I'm not happy if nothing catch fire when im welding

Needs must...it's not too difficult to rig a shield of some sort if I HAVE to weld something, but I'm in the happy position of be retired so I can pick my days.
Or, I can stick weld whatever it is, as long as it's not too thin.

Slim lives in Scotland, he only sees the sun for about 1 day a year you have a slight advantage there

Its not reported when it’s bad in Scotland, it’s too far from London for the media to care

Southern England does almost have 10times the population as Scotland so a bit more chaos when it snows.

Yep, I saw 13 degrees. Got up this morning to roughly 1" of snow and the sky looks like it's holding lots more. Roll on Springtime!!

Just had a 2 hour powercut. Aga and woodburner don't care but the re imaging of our server does care! 48 hrs of work down the pan now - just hope it hasn't wrecked the hard drive again!

Get it on a UPS with auto shutdown configured properly and then you can relax. My server is on a UPS and it shuts itself when the battery gets below 25%, gives me nearly an hour of runtime if I don't start the generator.

Better follow Police advice if your in the South don’t travel unless absolutely necessary, if your in the North you’ll need your top coat.

Shouldn't that be you might want to consider taking a coat with you just in case, don't actually bother putting it on yet but just have it handy in case it gets proper cold
